In simple words
Who buys it, and where to start
Renaissance faire visitors, LARP players, cosplayers and reenactment groups in Europe and North America. They buy handmade leather and padded gear at fair prices.
Good first products
- Hooded cloaks: They are easy to size and popular for faires and winter weddings.
- Archery bracers: They are small, light and loved by archers and LARP players.
- Peasant blouses: Faire newcomers need a first outfit, and blouses pair well with skirts.
Be careful with
- Never copy costumes from films, games or TV shows by name; describe styles in plain words.
- Kids' costumes must pass fire-safety tests, so they are not a good first product.
- Do not sell armour or padded jackets as real protection for combat sports unless they are tested.

How to start
First steps
- Ask a Sialkot or Lahore workshop for a hooded cloak and a pair of bracers as samples.
- Photograph them outdoors in a natural setting that suits the fantasy look.
- List them on Etsy with plain style words like elven, Viking or medieval.
Rules in plain words
What to check
Children's costumes must pass flammability tests, such as EN 71-2 in Europe or CPSIA rules in the US. Do not claim armour protects unless it has been tested. Real fur and any blades need extra checks, and do not use real current military insignia.
- Protective gear: only call a product "protective" or "safety" if it has been tested to the right standard. (11 product types)
- Children's products: they need safety tests for small parts, cords and chemicals before you sell them. (6 product types)
- Fur, ivory-like materials and some woods are restricted. Check before you list them. (2 product types)
- Knives and blades: many countries have age checks and delivery rules for blades, and some styles are banned. (1 product types)

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I sell a costume from a famous film?
No, not by its name or with its logos. You can sell your own style, for example a long space pilot jacket, described in plain words.
What is a gambeson?
It is a thick padded jacket worn under or instead of armour in the Middle Ages. Reenactors and sport fencers wear them today.
Who buys reproduction uniforms?
Reenactment societies and film teams often order in bulk. Make sure they are clearly sold as reproductions with no real current insignia.
